12.23.08 CATCHING UP WITH ANNIE
Team rider Annie Sullivan, is back at home in San Diego for the holidays so we caught up with her and found out what she’s been up to….
So first off, what have you been up to lately?
I finally turned 21 on December 1 and it’s been way too fun! I’ve been schooling, snowboarding and partying in Colorado for the past few months, so it’s been nice being back in my hometown, investigating the San Diego bar scene, skating, and enjoying the weather.
How is your junior year of college going?
It’s going fantastically… I passed all my classes this semester! I’m majoring in Advertisting and minoring in Technology Arts & Media at the University of Colorado in Boulder. I am pretty stoked on
everything out there. We had a late start to winter, and it was the first time I started the year without a broken bone, so I got to do a lot of skating all semester… and a bunch of sick new parks opened too so that was fun.
What’s it like living in Colorado where it snows a lot and you can’t always skateboard?
It sucks sometimes, but it makes me so much more stoked on skateboarding when the sun comes out and when I come home, which is why I’m mildly-depressed right now that’s it’s raining today. We have a couple indoor spots in CO I am going to have to start hitting up.
What are your plans for your Winter break?
I mostly just want to surf, skate as much as possible, play some music, and check out all the bars in San Diego. I’m going to try to squeeze in a few surf/skate trips to Santa Barbara and maybe NorCal as well. I also plan on doing a lot of cooking/baking… and of course eating.
How is life different now that you’re 21?
Life is way more fun when you’re 21! I feel like I can do whatever I want (like drag my older sister to the bar with me at four in the afternoon… or finally attend my sponsors’ parties in the Gaslamp)…
it’s been awesome!
So we won’t have to sneak you into any ASR parties next year?
Nope. I’ve been going to ASR since I was a grom… so I’m stoked I don’t have to worry about sneaking in anywhere!
What are you looking forward to in 2009?
So many things… Snowboarding 5 days a week, going to school 2 days a week, being legal, going on skate trips all summer long… you know, the usual.
How many nights in a row have you gone out since being in town?
5…
Impressive! Where did you party?
It has pretty much been a San Diego Bar Tour since I have been home. Last night we rode bikes to Longboard Grill in Pacific Beach. A reggae band played… we drank a lot of Red Stripe, while making fun of kooks. Good times.
Ok a serious question to finish it off, X Games announced equal prize money for girls and guys this year. What are your thoughts on that?
It’s about time! I’ll definitely be skating a little harder to make that dollar… just kidding, I’m not motivated by money. But I definitely think it is a great thing for women’s skateboarding.
