2.25.08 SKATEBOARD 4 THE FUTURE

In the past year, Osiris has been donating shoes to help out an organization called Skateboard 4 the Future. Check out the pictures from the last couple of events and read on to find out what Skateboard 4 the Future does to help out kids who are less fortunate.

Skateboard 4 the Future is a charitable organization with the mission of helping children and young people in need. The skateboarding and action sports community has a great deal to give, but it can be difficult for each of us individually to help. S4TF harnesses the resources and generosity of the skateboarding/action sports community to help underpriviledged children from all walks of life. We believe small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the life of a child, and can help inspire them to a better life. While giving a new pair of shoes, or a skateboard, to a kid whose family cannot afford a decent place to live or enough food to eat might seem insignificant, it may be just what that child needs to raise their spirits, and make the days go by a little easier.

In 2007/early 2008, thanks to the overwhelming support of almost 60 donors, we raised over $40,000 in product donations, and were able to help a great many children and young people in our community. We hope to make 2008 an even bigger year, with donation events planned for June and December.

2.14.08 NIKITA CHICKITA RECAP

Here is a recap of the weekend — thank you Brooke!!

The Nikita Chickita is one of the only all-girls amateur events in the world, and between the competitor turnout and the super cooperative nature of the weather, it’s pretty clear that girls are ready for many more of their own events and mother nature agrees. Despite the busy contest weekend, girls from around the country came out to support the Nikita Chickita USA and the result was a very fun day in the California sun on February 9, 2008.

Though there were winners, Isabelle Lalive and Alice Gong in the Open and Am classes respectively, the entire day didn’t feel much like a contest. “It was a lot of fun, the sun was out, girls were killing it,” Isabelle said. “It was such a good time. In general the vibe was mellow, girls were stoked for each other. It was more like a bunch of friends riding on a sunny day than a contest.” Isabelle threw a backside 540 into a cab three then effortlessly rode the rest of the course to earn the highest score for the open class her first run. Nikita Riders Vera Janssen and Jordie Karlinski also stomped some spins and jibbed the boxes to take 2nd and 3rd.

The contest is really about the amateurs though, and Mammoth local Alice took home not only a snowboard, boots, and a $200 gift card from Active ride shop, but the big kahuna—a one year Nikita Sponsorship. “I couldn’t even believe it,” Alice said. “I am not sponsored by anyone, I just ride all the time. This is rad — I am really excited!” Rounding out the amateur podium was another Mammoth local, Indigo Monk and New Zealand-via-Tahoe rider Femke Henriques. To top the am division it took solid landings, held grabs and a few spins. Alice’s winning run included a half cab indy, back three, a method an almost-frontside-540 and a solid front board.

“I was having so much fun riding in between qualifiers and finals,” Alice said. “I think that just got me really stoked, just having a great day on the hill and carrying that through into the contest.” Best trick went to Amateur rider Tammy Varner for her super stylish and floaty backside 180 melon. The Nikita Chickita is an all-girls event, with stops in Europe, Canada and the US. In its third year, the event has grown each year and is sure to keep girls riding and progressing for years to come. Next year Nikita will add two more US stops to the tour.

2.6.08 ART SHOW IN NY

Our last suitcase winner Rachel, from New York, is planning an art show with a great cause…if you are nearby be sure to check it out…

Jedidiah Clothing will be hosting a 6-week long art show in NYC. The show will be held at All Things Project on Bleecker St. in Greenwich Village starting February 16th and ending March 20th. It is a free event, but a $5 donation is encouraged. The proceeds from donations and the raffle will all go to Invisible Children. The show will be titled Love for Humanity, exemplifying positive messages that speak love, hope, and faith. The focus will be on social justice issues (poverty, water quality, homelessness, AIDS, child soldiering, etc.) both in the art displayed and the events scheduled at the venue during the exhibition period. Opening night will be on February 16th and will consist of an Invisible Children screening, giveaways, refreshments and more. The featured artists will be in attendance along with a few Jedidiah representatives and the Invisible Children roadies as the screening will be the official screening in NYC for the Invisible Children spring tour.
